Contest Winners

After a weeks worth of voting, we have a winner! Two of them, actually.

Two entries were separated by only two votes at the time I wrote this so I've decided to appoint them both winners of the Sorsha to Pig contest. Each will receive a photomanipulation and the winning artwork will be displayed in my journal for the next little while. The second and third place winner's artwork will also be displayed in my journal.

Contest Finalists

I'd like to thank all those who participated in the contest!

I have narrowed down the entries to six favorites of mine. I was going to do just five but I had too many favorites :)

I also asked three other artists (who did not submit artwork to the contest) to select their favorites and then I compared and these are the results (in alphabetical order by artist):

The poll can be found here.

Shout Out

I also wanted to shout out to a couple of artists who, while not in the top six, still made an impression on me:

:iconwhyme777x: for a very creative approach to the contest

:icontfghost: for multiple entries (digitalcirce also contributed multiple entries)

Contest ONE

5 min read
Background

I'm a big fan of movies...particularly those that feature some sort of transformation in them. Unfortunately, due to budget, time, lack of resources, most promising movie or television transformations either occur off camera or are poorly done.

An example of this, and the subject of this contest, is the character Sorsha from the movie Willow.

As many of you already know, Sorsha, along with her new boyfriend Madmartigan and an entire army, are forcibly transformed into pigs by Sorsha's mother, Bavmorda. This scene caught me off guard when I originally saw the movie in the theater. It is, hands down, one of the best transformation scenes I have ever viewed.

The bulk of the scene focuses on Madmartigan's metamorphosis rather than Sorsha's. From a film making point of view, this makes perfect sense. Sorsha's on screen transformation scene consists entirely of her doubling over while emitting a porcine squeal from her quickly changing larynx. It's a wonderful start to what we had already seen to be a horrible transformation.

So...that said, the subject of this contest to visually depict Sorsha's transformation into a pig. This can be accomplished as a one shot-image or a sequence. The idea here is to show graphically what we were left to imagine.

Over the years, several wonderful artists have illustrated Sorsha's change. Some of my favorites are below:

Rules

To enter, please submit one (or more) deviations of Sorsha (or a likeness of Sorsha) transforming into a pig to your gallery dated between July 1st, 2010 and no later than midnight, August 15th, 2010. It must be new art (or at least not previously submitted).

Please put a link to this journal entry in the artist's comments sections and send me a note with the following in the subject line: SORSHA PIG CONTEST ENTRY and a link to your image.

Shortly after the deadline (August 15th 2010), I will select five of my favorites and create a poll allowing you to vote for your favorite. My favorites will be selected based not only on artistic merit but on creativity and detail. The idea is to capture the magic (or horror) of the transformation.

Contest entries can be viewed HERE

After a short voting period, the winner (the entry with the most votes) will be announced and the artist will receive a photomanipulation of themselves or a loved one (preferably into a pig but I'll be flexible :))

If anyone wished to donate additional prizes, please let me know.

The following art types will be accepted:

3D Art
Drawing (Digital or Traditional)
Photomanipulation
Painting/Airbrushing (Digital or Traditional)
Pixel Art
Sculpture
Vector Art

Nudity/Adult content WILL NOT be accepted. Let's keep this clean please.

If you plan on submitting a photomanipulation, please be sure that you are using copyright free stock or deviantArt will eventually remove it from your gallery.

Final Thoughts

This contest is purely for fun and hopefully it will increase the amount of Sorsha into pig related artwork available.

If this contest is successful, I'd be open to holding additional contests along the same theme...either show was was never shown or re-imagine what was shown.

Here are some ideas:

April O'Neil into a cat
Boof into a teenwolf

If you have any questions, just let me know!

So I had this idea which consists of visually depicting existing fairy tales with a transformation based twist.

My latest photomanipulation, Red Riding Hood, is an example.

In this version of the story, Red begins to change into a wolf.

I've had a few people come up with ideas for other fairy tale transformations but I'd love to hear some more ideas.

List of current ideas:

Red Riding Hood --> Wolf

• Hansel and Gretel --> Pigs

• Princess from The Frog Prince --> Frog

• Puss in Boots --> Cat

In addition, I will not be shooting my own photography for this project (this is why). I will be using stock from right here on deviantArt. Anyone who wishes to point out appropriate stock or, better yet, provide stock, please let me know. I'm going to need some help on this one.

Commissions

I am open for commissions. Prices start at $40 and vary depending on the complexity of the photomanipulation. Please note me for details!
